Shaun Derry: Cambridge boss wants all players to score goals

Cambridge United manager Shaun Derry says he wants to see all of his players taking responsibility for scoring goals. Only Morecambe have scored fewer goals in League Two this season with three of Cambridge’s last five league matches ending in goalless draws. They are currently 15th in the table.

“Every player that pulls on the shirt for Cambridge has got to sense the responsibility of scoring goals,” Derry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. The U’s suffered their heaviest-ever fourth-tier loss when they were beaten 7-0 by Luton on Saturday.”I want to see centre-halves scoring goals, I want to see wide players getting on the scoresheet,” Derry said.”At times this year we’ve felt that we’ve required the goals at certain times and then goals haven’t come.”And Derry says he will look to bring in players in January, if his squad does not respond.”I’ve made my wishes known and it’s for us now to work together and make sure that we do get a player through the door in January,” the 39-year-old added.”I’m putting a little bit of pressure on the lads, in the right way. I’m asking them to improve and show their improvement and I think we’re ready to do that.”
