Max Clifford: Date set for publicist's inquest


The inquest into the death of disgraced celebrity publicist Max Clifford will open next week.Clifford, 74, who was serving an eight-year jail sentence for historical sex offences, died in hospital on 10 December after collapsing in prison.He collapsed in his cell at Littlehey Prison in Cambridgeshire on 7 December and again the following day, his daughter said.The inquest into his death will be opened in Huntingdon on 21 December.During his 50-year career as a publicist, Clifford, who started his own company at 27, looked after press and publicity for a mixed range of clients such as Marlon Brando, Marvin Gaye, Muhammad Ali and Jade Goody.However, in May 2014 he was jailed after being convicted of eight historical indecent assaults on women and young girls under Operation Yewtree – the Met Police investigation set up in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.The publicist who became notorious How Clifford tried to spin his trialAfter his convictions, Clifford continued to protest his innocence, and an appeal against his sentence was due to be heard at the Court of Appeal in the New Year.
