Cambridge 'cannabis' school bus driver arrested

A school bus driver taking pupils to their classes has been arrested after failing a drugs test for cannabis.The minibus driver was dropping pupils off at Castle School in Courtney Way, Cambridge, at 09:15 GMT when police approached the vehicle.A 28-year-old man failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis, and was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.The driver, from Haverhill in Suffolk, has been released under investigation.He was detained by officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit “acting on information”, a Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said.Pupils were on board the bus when officers approached the driver but he was allowed to help them off before he was tested and arrested, the force added.Castle School has 165 pupils aged between three and 19, all of whom have special educational needs or disabilities.Head teacher Carol McCarthy said the driver was employed by Cambridgeshire County Council, and the school was in contact with police and the local authority.A council spokesman said: “We can confirm that a bus driver for Star Transport was arrested this morning outside the Castle School in Cambridge. “The driver has been suspended pending further investigation.”
