Ever wondered what fire fighters get up to when they’re not attending incidents?

As part of #OurDay – a social media campaign on Twitter – the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) offered a snap shot of their work over a 24 hour period.
“Some of our on-call stations will be on their drill nights tonight. Their first job will be checking the equipment on the fire engine is ready to attend an incident when they are called #OurDay #TeamCambs”
The #OurDay event is a yearly social media campaign to celebrate the diverse work completed by local councils and public bodies on a day-to-day basis.
“On-call firefighters at #Papworth Fire Station have started their drill night early tonight. They are receiving some training from our ICT and Application Support Group for a new system to track the equipment on the fire engine #OurDay #TeamCambs”
The event took place last Tuesday (November 21) and the CFRS didn’t miss a minute, documenting every aspect of the day.
“We have community safety officers based at various locations who not only deliver safe and well visits to vulnerable residents, but also work with partner agencies and officers on other fire prevention activity #OurDay #TeamCambs”
From the morning meeting to life saving equipment checks, the CFRS updated the #OurDay Twitter blog every step of the way.
“The community fire safety team covers a wide range of activity to keep people across the county safe. Fire protection officers work with business to ensure they have a thorough fire risk assessment as well as working on complex building control consultations #OurDay #TeamCambs”
Chief fire officer Chris Strickland said a short video to end the day: “I hope you’ve enjoyed having a look behind the scenes to see what goes on.
“The car park at SHQ is thinning out as support staff leave for the day. It’s drill night for some on-call fire stations this evening so stay tuned as we hear from them later…#OurDay”
“I hope you’ve got an appreciation that to support that delivery of service there’s a huge range of things that happen behind the scenes.
“We have community champions that deliver fire safety advice to people across the county. These are volunteers who attend safety events and encourage residents to have safe and well visits. #OurDay”
